For big events on La Crosse’s riverfront like Riverfest or Rotary Lights, the city may still need to bring in porta-potties.  But for everyday use, Riverside Park could soon get a new restroom building.

At a meeting of the heritage preservation commission, park department staffer Dan Trussoni said more toilet facilities will be in the building, with increased stalls for both sexes.

The cost will be 500-thousand dollars, to be split between City Hall and a citizens’ group.

The commission reviewed the plans on Thursday, to make sure they fit in with the historic nature of the riverfront. The new building will be constructed just north of the restrooms located near the park entrance on State Street.
